Q: Tell us a little bit about your background before joining Wolf?

A: I did a Marketing degree at university then followed it up with a Masters degree in Computer Science at Sheffield Hallam University. After this, I worked in the industrial sector at a company that integrated process control systemsr for lage industrial sites, primarily in the steel industry, but also in the water, cement and aluminum manufacturing industries.

Q: Tell us about your current role within Wolf and what you enjoy about it?

A: I am currently the Sales and Marketing Director for Wolf Safety. I enjoy the variety of markets that we operate in, there's always some different aspect to the way our products are being used, which is very interesting. I also like it when I get to visit really large engineering companies and see how they operate, like Airbus, BAE Systems and some of the airlines who use our products for Maintenance and Repair.

Q: What makes Wolf Safety stand out from other companies?

A: I think the key standout is the service we offer our customers; we respond to enquiries within 24 hours and hold a huge amount of stock which means we can supply quite large orders on a very fast turnaround. Quite often when projects start, they find that they've forgetten all about lighting and on day 1 they realise they can’t see and Bingo, a sale!!

Q: What is your biggest achievement so far within Wolf?

A: I feel the biggest achievement is creating a team with the Sales and Marketing department of people who pull together in every way. Everyone is willing to support each other and ensure the customer gets what they need. They all go the extra mile!

Q: What has changed since you started at Wolf?

A: Everything and nothing… What do I mean by that? When I started at Wolf, we only had the Portable Lighting range. Since then, we've added our Temporary Lighting range, the Temporary Power Distribution range, Ventilation products and most recently the Installed Lighting range. The sales office used to be 3 separate offices. The goods-in warehouse was just a patch of waste land and we’ve more than doubled turnover. However, having said that, many things have stayed the same. Our focus on designing and manufacturing the highest quality, best performing products for users hasn’t changed, and neither has our focus on providing excellent customer service.

Q: What currently are the biggest challenges or opportunities facing Wolf, and how is Wolf tackling them?

A: The new Installed Lighting range is certainly both an opportunity and a challenge. Bringing an entire new range of products to the market wasn’t an easy task, and promoting it to a new sector within our customer base has needed a new approach - most of our customers focus on MRO applications (Maintenance Repair and Operations) but a lot of the Installed products would be required for projects. Having said that, we have successfully built up the Temporary Lighting Product range and I know we can do the same with the Installed Product range.

Q: What have been your personal objectives whilst you have been at Wolf?

A: To play my part in helping Wolf continue to grow as a company by offering the best possible ‘Ex’ safety lighting solutions for users in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?

A: I do quite a bit of gardening, I used to be a big fan of scuba diving and I've notched up over 100 dives, but I haven’t had much opportunity recently. More recently I've taken up golf and cycling. The highlight of my golf year is the annual trip to Portugal where we have a mini competiton over 4 rounds in the sun, and I managed to win in 2021! In 2019 I managed to complete a stage of the Tour de France called the Etape du Tour. The 135 km route from Albertville to Val Thorens featured 4,563m of climbing up to Cormet de Roselend (Categorié 1), Côte de Longefoy (Categorié 2), and the final climb to Val Thorens (Hors Categorié).

Q: What is the most nerve-wracking thing that you have ever had to do?

A: Multi pitch climbing in the Llanberris pass, we ended up over 300M off the ground!!!

Q: And finally, do you have any secret talents?

A: I make a mean spaghetti bolognaise, my kids love it anyway 😂

Thanks Miles, it has been great talking to you!
